Terms of use
Last updated: October 29, 2026
These terms apply to Elabora’s online services:
- author accounts;
- publishing modules on
<space>.elabora.page; - reviewing modules on
revue.elabora.studio.
The desktop app has its own licence, in section 12.
The service is published on a non-professional basis by Aurélien Dos Santos (see the legal notice), referred to below as “Elabora” or “we”.
1. Who uses the service
- Authors have an account. They publish modules and open reviews.
- Reviewers receive a review link from an author. They read the module and comment, without an account.
- Visitors (learners) view a published module.
By creating an account, or by commenting in a review, you accept these terms. Visitors have nothing to accept. They must only respect the law and sections 5 and 6.
2. Invitation-only access and minimum age
- Sign-up is closed for now. Only addresses invited by Elabora can create an account. We will open it later.
- The minimum age is 15, both to create an account and to comment in a review. People under 15 cannot use these features, even with parental permission.
- If you are 15 to 17, rules on minors’ contractual capacity still apply. Involve a person with parental authority where your commitment requires their permission. The age of 15 does not confer full contractual capacity.
- The services the app can use (ElevenLabs, Claude, ChatGPT…) have their own minimum ages, often higher. Respect them.
- Your information must be accurate. In particular, your account’s e-mail address must be yours and remain valid: you sign in with it and we write to you there.
3. Your account
- Signing in uses a code sent to your address. Never share it.
- Your space carries your handle:
<handle>.elabora.page. You can change it once every 30 days, with no redirect: the old address stops serving your courses at once, and links to it no longer lead to them. A handle that is left, by a change or by deleting the account, is reserved for a year, then someone else may take it; your publications’ names will never be used there by anyone else (privacy policy, section 4). - You are responsible for what is done from your sessions. Sign out a lost device from your device list, or write to us.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings › Account › Delete my account… You can also write to contact@elabora.studio, particularly if you cannot sign in. Deletion removes your space, publications, reviews and their comments; data subject to statutory retention and residual copies follow the periods in the privacy policy. Projects on your computer stay there.
4. Your content
It stays yours. You keep all your rights to your modules and your replies to reviewers.
The licence you give us. By publishing, you grant us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence. It lets us only run the service:
- store your files, make the technical copies needed and cache them;
- serve them to visitors of your public publications;
- serve them to people holding your reviews’ links.
It ends when you unpublish or delete your account, except for backup copies, which disappear within the periods in the privacy policy. We do not use your content to promote Elabora without your written consent, nor to train an AI model.
You are responsible for what you publish. You guarantee that:
- you hold the rights to everything in the module: texts, images, videos, sounds, fonts, 3D models, code;
- you respect third-party licences, giving the credits and notices they require. Examples: a SIL OFL font, a CC-BY image or voice, an MIT library;
- you may use the voices in your module: synthetic voices under their terms (ElevenLabs’, or the licence of local voices), and no voice cloned without the person’s express consent;
- you respect the rights of people shown or quoted in the module: image rights, privacy, personal data. You are the one responsible for that data;
- you inform your learners if your module keeps their progress in their browser, or if your scripts process data. A module must not collect data without visitors knowing.
Reviewers’ comments are published under their own responsibility. Each reviewer guarantees they have the right to write what they write. They can edit or delete their comments while the review is open.
If you hand comments to an AI assistant, you do so under your own responsibility and its provider’s terms.
Personal data in reviews
The roles. When you organise a review as a controller under the GDPR, you determine its purpose, the people invited and the legal basis for processing their data. Elabora acts as your processor to host and make that review’s data accessible. Elabora remains controller for processing whose purposes it determines itself: accounts, service security, handling requests and legal obligations. These roles are distinct; strictly personal use is assessed under the rules applicable to it.
Scope of processing. While hosting the review, Elabora collects, records, organises, stores, displays, transmits to authorised recipients, returns and deletes, on your instructions, reviewers’ names or nicknames, access tokens, comments and metadata, your replies and module files containing personal data. Data subjects are authors, reviewers and people mentioned or represented in that content. Retention periods are those of the privacy policy; processing ends when data is deleted or returned, subject to statutory retention.
Your instructions and obligations. These terms and your actions in the service constitute your documented instructions: creating a review, choosing its recipients, accessing or transmitting its comments, closing or deleting it. You must have a legal basis, inform people before they participate and limit data to what is necessary. Before sending data to an AI provider or another recipient, you must check the lawfulness of that disclosure and, where relevant, the safeguards for a transfer outside the European Economic Area (EEA). You can send further instructions to contact@elabora.studio; changes to the service must be agreed separately.
Elabora’s commitments. For this processing on your behalf, we undertake to:
- process data only on your documented instructions, including for transfers outside the EEA, unless legally required otherwise; in that case, inform you before processing unless the law prohibits it; inform you immediately of an instruction that we believe infringes data protection law;
- limit access to authorised people under a duty of confidentiality and apply appropriate security measures under Article 32 GDPR, including encrypted connections, access protection and separation between content domains and credentials;
- help you, insofar as possible and taking the nature of processing into account, respond to rights requests; forward those we receive without undue delay and not answer on your behalf without instructions, unless legally required;
- inform you without undue delay after becoming aware of a personal data breach, providing the information available and supplementing it afterwards; help you comply with security, notification, impact assessment and prior consultation obligations under Articles 32 to 36 GDPR;
- make available the information needed to demonstrate compliance with these commitments and allow audits and inspections by you or an auditor you appoint, under arrangements protecting security and other users’ data;
- at the end of the service, at your choice, return data in a common format and then delete copies, or delete it directly, unless retention is required by law. Residual backups are isolated and expire within the policy’s periods; deletions are reapplied if backups are restored.
Sub-processors. You give general written authorisation to use Cloudflare for hosting review data under the privacy policy. We inform you of any addition or replacement at least 30 days beforehand, allowing you to raise a reasoned objection. If no compatible solution can be found, you may end the affected hosting and request return or deletion of the data. We impose the same data protection obligations on these providers and remain responsible to you for their performance.
Elabora does not use your review data for promotion or to train an AI model. The AI provider you choose does not thereby become Elabora’s sub-processor.
5. What is forbidden
You may not publish, comment or use the service for:
- illegal content:
- child sexual abuse material;
- terrorist content;
- incitement to hatred or violence;
- harassment;
- defamation or insults;
- threats;
- copyright or trademark infringement;
- sale of illegal goods;
- disclosure of other people’s personal data without right;
- deceiving or attacking:
- phishing, for example a page imitating a sign-in;
- malware;
- cryptocurrency mining in visitors’ browsers;
- deceptive redirects;
- impersonating a person or Elabora;
- collecting or transmitting personal data about visitors or reviewers without the required legal basis, information and safeguards;
- spam, or using the service as plain file hosting or a delivery network for other sites;
- circumventing quotas, rate limits or security measures, for example with several accounts for one person;
- testing the service’s security without following our vulnerability policy (
security.txt), or disrupting it; - reselling access to the service.
6. Reporting and moderation
Anyone can report content they believe is illegal or breaches these terms to abuse@elabora.studio. The procedure, time frames, possible measures and remedies are set out in Reporting and moderation, which is part of these terms.
Moderation is done by a person, the publisher, without automated decisions. When we restrict content or an account, we give you the reasons by e-mail, and you can contest them.
7. The free plan and its quotas
The service is free for now. Each account’s current quotas:
| Quota | Today |
|---|---|
| Storage | 500 MiB per space. Every version kept counts, identical files once |
| Public publications at once | 3 (private publications only count in storage) |
| Open reviews at once | 3 (open or read-only; closed reviews do not count) |
| Search engine indexing | No: publications are not indexed |
Technical limits also apply:
- per review: at most 5,000 comments, 500 reviewers and 100 versions;
- per comment: at most 4,000 characters;
- rate limits;
- a storage ceiling shared by the whole service;
- a number of e-mails per day shared by the whole service. Beyond it, signing in may be unavailable until the next day.
We may change these quotas.
- A reduction will be announced by e-mail 30 days in advance. Content already published stays online, but you cannot publish beyond the new quota.
- An increase applies at once.
- Any paid plan will have separate terms, which you are free to accept.
8. Availability and liability
The service is free and may experience interruptions or errors. We do not promise uninterrupted access or a specific recovery time:
- it may be interrupted for maintenance, an incident or because the service’s daily request quota has been reached;
- always keep your source files and backups. Hosting is not a backup service for your projects.
Elabora’s liability remains governed by the applicable rules. These explanations about how the service works do not exclude or reduce the rights to compensation and guarantees that the law gives you.
9. Suspension and deletion
What you can do: unpublish a publication, close or delete a review, and delete your account at any time.
What we can do:
- unpublish a publication;
- close a review;
- delete a comment;
- suspend an account, which signs out all its devices and blocks sign-in;
- delete an account.
We do so in four cases:
- illegal content;
- a breach of these terms;
- a risk to the security of the service or its users;
- a request from an authority.
Unless urgent or legally required, we warn you and give you time to answer. In every case we give you the reasons (section 6).
Inactive accounts: after 24 months without sign-in or use (the app or the command line count), we write to you. Without a sign-in within the following 30 days, the account and its space are deleted.
If the service closes or the free plan ends, we will tell you at least 60 days in advance.
10. Changes to these terms
Each version is dated. An important change will be announced by e-mail at least 30 days before it applies, unless the law requires otherwise. If you disagree, you can delete your account before that date.
11. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law, without depriving you of mandatory protections that apply to you where provided by law.
You may write to contact@elabora.studio to seek an amicable solution. Doing so does not prevent you from bringing proceedings.
Jurisdiction is determined by the applicable rules. If you are a consumer, you retain, in particular, the options those rules provide to bring proceedings before the courts where you live.
12. The desktop app’s licence
- Free. You may install and use the Elabora app for free, on as many computers as you like, for personal or professional use. This includes making modules that you sell or distribute. If paid features are added, such as online hosting, they will have separate terms, which you are free to accept.
- A proprietary app. The app’s proprietary elements belong to the publisher. The licence is free and non-exclusive. It is granted to the user or the organisation on whose behalf they are authorised to act, and permits use by that person or the organisation’s authorised users to create and use their modules. You may not resell these proprietary elements, rent them or distribute a modified version. These restrictions are subject to rights that cannot legally be waived, including making a necessary backup, observing, studying or testing the software under the conditions provided by law, and acts needed for interoperability where the statutory conditions are met.
- The core is open source. The module format, engine, player and command line (
elabora-core) are under the Apache-2.0 licence. You may use, modify and redistribute them under that licence. The player included in an exported module is part of it. Third-party components shipped with the app keep their own licences, listed in itslicencesfolder. - Rights to open-source components are preserved. This section’s restrictions concern only the app’s proprietary elements. They do not limit rights granted by the open core’s or third-party components’ licences, including ffmpeg and local voices. If terms differ, the component’s licence applies to that component. The required licences, notices and arrangements for access to source code accompany the relevant components.
- Your modules are yours. Elabora claims no rights over what you create. An exported module works without the app or an account.
- This is a beta. Features may change, be missing or go away, and errors are possible. Keep backups of your projects. You can turn off automatic update downloads; version checks continue (see the privacy policy, section 9).
- Liability. The limitations of a beta do not exclude or reduce the rights to compensation and guarantees that the law gives you. Elabora’s liability remains governed by the applicable rules.
- Installed versions. A version you received for free may continue to be used, including after the beta, with no promise of new features or support. Future versions may have different terms, presented before acceptance. The licence cannot be revoked without cause; termination for a serious breach follows notice and a reasonable opportunity to remedy it, subject to mandatory rules. Ending online hosting follows the notice periods in the service terms. Your projects remain in an open format, readable by the open-source core.
Governing law and disputes are covered by section 11.
