Elabora vs Articulate Rise 360
Rise builds clean, responsive courses from blocks, in the browser, and lets a team work on the same course. Elabora also makes scrolling courses, or slides, written with your AI from a plan you approve, on your computer and for free. Pick Rise for team co-editing and xAPI or cmi5; pick Elabora to keep your courses as files and to add 3D, dialogues and voices.

The difference in one minute
Rise is a web app. You stack ready-made blocks, text, images, accordions, quizzes, and the course adapts to every screen. It is quick to learn, and it lives in your Articulate 360 account.
Elabora is a desktop app for macOS and Windows. You describe the course, the AI proposes a plan, you approve it, then it writes the screens, as a scrolling page or as slides. Each course is a folder of files on your computer.
What Rise does better
- Working as a team. With Articulate 360 Teams, authors edit different lessons of the same course at the same time, share folders and reuse block templates.
- More delivery formats. cmi5, xAPI, SCORM and AICC packages, and share links with a password. Elabora delivers SCORM 1.2 and the web today.
- Review inside the editor. Review 360 comments show up in a panel in Rise, lesson by lesson, where you reply and resolve them.
- Templates and media. More than 1,000 course templates and the Content Library.
- Accessibility you can cite. Articulate states that published Rise courses support WCAG 2.1 AA and lists the screen readers it supports.
Where Elabora differs
- Your files, for good. A Rise course lives on Articulate’s servers and stops being editable when the subscription ends. An Elabora course is a folder in an open format, and Elabora is free.
- More than blocks. 3D scenes you can operate, dialogues where learners answer characters who speak, narration timed to the screen, with ElevenLabs or free voices made on your computer.
- Your AI, your choice. Claude, ChatGPT or Elabora’s free chat writes the plan, then the screens; each change becomes a card you review and can undo.
- Checks before delivery. Contrast, text alternatives, keyboard use and captions are checked on every screen, and each package is tested against the rules of common LMSs.
Coming from Rise
- Export a course from Rise as a web or SCORM package.
- In Elabora, create a course and attach the ZIP: the import is in beta, and its report tells you what came over.
- Keep Rise for the courses your team edits together, or that need xAPI or cmi5.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Rise if…
- Several authors edit the same courses, with shared folders and block templates.
- Your LMS needs xAPI, cmi5 or AICC.
- You want to work from any computer, in a browser.
- Your organisation already pays for Articulate 360.
Choose Elabora if…
- You want your courses as files on your computer that stay editable whatever you pay.
- You want 3D scenes, dialogues with characters, or narration with free local voices.
- You want your own AI agent to write and edit the course, and to undo any change it makes.
- SCORM 1.2 or a web link is enough for your LMS.
Elabora’s limits today
We list them on every comparison. They are what we work on first.
- One delivery format today: SCORM 1.2 packages and web links. If your LMS needs SCORM 2004, xAPI or cmi5, keep your current tool for those courses for now.
- Importing Storyline and Rise courses is in beta. Some question types, triggers and interactions come over as text with a note, and the import report lists each one.
- A young tool: the first public version came out on 20 October 2026, and Elabora is in beta. Expect fewer tutorials and community answers, and a new version every few days.
- One author per course for now. Co-authoring and shared team spaces come later, with Elabora’s cloud.
- A smaller library: 7 templates and starter blocks, and no stock library of photos or characters.
Questions
- Can I import my Rise courses into Elabora?
- Yes, in beta. Export the course from Rise (web, SCORM or xAPI) and attach the ZIP when you create a course in Elabora. The import report lists what came over and what was left out.
- What happens to Rise courses when the subscription ends?
- Articulate says you lose access to Rise 360 and can no longer edit or publish, keeps the courses on its servers for up to 6 months, and published courses keep working for learners.
- Does Elabora make scrolling courses like Rise?
- Yes. When you create a course, choose A scrolling page (each part reads as you scroll) or Slides (one screen at a time).
